Jane Fonda named Annenberg commencement speaker

The ceremony will take place May 16 at Shrine Auditorium.

Activist, actor and author Jane Fonda will speak at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism commencement, the school announced in a press release Thursday. Fonda, a two-time Academy Award winner who has appeared in more than 50 films, received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2024, among other accomplishments.

“Jane Fonda challenges us to see the world more clearly,” Annenberg Dean Willow Bay wrote in the press release. “She reminds us that communication — whether through storytelling, advocacy or dialogue — is an essential catalyst for positive change, and inspires our Class of 2025 to use their voices with purpose.”

Fonda has focused her recent advocacy on climate awareness and justice in what she calls her “Third Act,” the press release read. This act has included authoring the New York Times Best Seller “What Can I Do?: The Truth About Climate Change” as well as a discussion at Annenberg Hall last April, called “Temperature Check.”

Annenberg’s commencement ceremony will take place May 16 at 9 a.m. at Shrine Auditorium.
