Astrophysicist James Bullock will take over as dean of the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences on July 1, the Office of the Provost announced in a community-wide email Monday. Bullock currently serves as the dean of UC Irvine’s School of Physical Sciences, where he previously served as a professor of physics and astronomy since 2004.

“Dornsife can be the global exemplar of what a liberal arts education is,” Bullock said in an interview with USC News. “I’m so excited to lock arms with our world-class faculty, staff and students to demonstrate the power and promise of letters, arts and sciences for Los Angeles and the world beyond.”

Mohamed El-Naggar has served as the interim dean of Dornsife since June 15 after Amber Miller stepped down to become president of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
