The Undergraduate Student Government senate heard presentations from chief of staff Karen Borglund, chief communications officer Emily Chang and chief programming officer Ali Edmonds on Tuesday night.

During her presentation, Borglund said USG received 172 applications for officer positions at the Fall 2025 Involvement Fair.

“We started off really strong … We go to talk to a lot of students,” Borglund said. “We had a lot of students [who] were actually interested through that involvement fair.”

Borglund said that she and her team completed interviews one week after the involvement fair. She said her team is in the process of onboarding over 50 new USG officers.

“We’re so excited to onboard our new members and see the organization grow,” Borglund said. “We’re getting the ball rolling and keeping the momentum up with projects and initiatives.”

In her presentation, CCO Chang gave updates on USG branding and visibility, and building intentional projects. Chang said that she has worked on strengthening USG’s visibility when it comes to events and programming on campus.

“These past few years have been quite short-term,” Chang said. “We’re making sure we’re intentional with our collaboration, and making sure that those collaborations last past this administration and can easily go to other administrations.”

Chang also said she and her team is making new content for USG’s website and Instagram account. She said that USG’s Instagram account has gained over 500 followers.

In her presentation, she emphasized her goal of increasing USG’s online presence. She said she has been working with director of digital strategy Arsalan Ghogari to create a content request form, where students can provide input on what types of content they want to see from USG to streamline the content creation process.

“We put out a video or a graphic virtually almost every day,” Chang said. “A lot of people don’t recognize how tough that is for the team, just because there are a lot of steps to it.”

CPO Edmonds presented several updates, such as strengthening senate and programming relationships and updating the programming guidebook. Edmonds said there will be an updated vocabulary list that will help break down commonly used acronyms that are used in the programming department.

“It’s the one-stop shot for anything programming-wise and for events on campus,” Edmonds said of the vocabulary list. “That’s been helpful for our new directors, because we have a lot of new directors this year.”

During the meeting, Edmonds also said she worked with speaker of the senate Jeremiah Boisrond to create a system that connects programming leaders with a senator to help develop and strengthen relationships with each other.

“Some of these [partnerships] are based on initiatives that the senators have worked on that correlate really well with programming groups,” Edmonds said.

Edmonds said she has started her first set of individual meetings with other programming members alongside chief diversity officer Yasmeen ElFarra. Edmonds said ElFarra has been helping explain to the programming assembly directors the role of advocacy liaisons in connecting with the senate and student body.
