RIO KOSTA mesmerizes with disco-funk sound at Roxy Theatre

Los Angeles natives Mike Del Rio and Kosta Galanopoulos — known on stage as RIO KOSTA — received a warm welcome during their show at the Roxy Theatre. The Roxy was packed, people taking up any available space across the theater’s varying levels of elevation and ready to take in some groovy tunes.

Wednesday night marked the duo’s penultimate show on their North American tour, having released their debut album, “Unicorn,” in July 2025, just five months after releasing their first-ever singles together.

The pair met when Del Rio approached Galanopoulos during a sound check at a festival, sparking a bond forged around shared aesthetics and inspirations.

From there, RIO KOSTA melded Del Rio and Galanopoulos’ heritages — Puerto Rican and Greek backgrounds, respectively — to create a mesmerizing disco-funk sound complete with repetitive lyrics that help listeners get lost in what felt like one long jam session.
