Following a stellar season in which she emerged as one of the best players in the Big Ten, USC women’s basketball senior guard Kara Dunn has signed a training camp contract with the Phoenix Mercury, the Trojans announced Tuesday. Dunn’s signing comes after she went undrafted in Monday’s WNBA Draft despite being projected as a second- or third-round pick by several major outlets.

After spending three years at Georgia Tech, Dunn transferred to USC for her senior season, where she served as a key veteran piece on a squad reeling from the absence of superstar junior guard JuJu Watkins. Dunn started all 32 games for the Trojans, averaging 15.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game to earn All-Big Ten Second Team honors.

Dunn stood out as one of USC’s best shooters, hitting 47.5% of her shots from the field and 37.8% from beyond the arc. Her season reached its peak with a dominant stretch in January in which she scored at least 21 points in seven straight games, capped by a 25-point, 12-rebound performance to lead the Trojans to an upset win over then-No. 8 Iowa.

Dunn will look to become USC’s 21st player to reach the WNBA — and the fifth since Head Coach Lindsay Gottlieb took over in 2022 — but will have to compete for a spot on a highly talented roster. The Mercury finished with the fourth-best record in the league in 2025 and reached the WNBA Finals, where they lost to the perennial juggernaut Las Vegas Aces.
