Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam – I Had A Dream That You Were Mine

The affecting & intense debut full-length from this collaborative effort, featuring Hamilton Leithauser (formerly of the Walkmen) and Rostam Batmanglij (formerly of Vampire Weekend) combines the irresistestible rock vibes of their mid-2000s bands with a contemporary singer-songwriter flair.

How To Dress Well – Care

The slick PBR&B of How To Dress Well, aka Tom Krell, improves with every iteration, and his fourth album Care is his best yet. Equally emotional and danceable, Care’s shimmering synths and slinky beats surround you in their unique meldic world.

Will Joseph Cook – Sweet Dreamer (single)

British pop-rock wunderkind Will Joseph Cook is on a hot, hot A-game right now, spitting out chunks of ear-candy every few months like some sort of blessed delivery service. “Sweet Dreamer” is his latest, perfect for singing along to in the shower and a high placement on your JAMZ playlist.

Pronoun – A Million Other Things (single)

There’s nothing sweeter than when a debut single gets it so right. “A Million Other Things,” the world’s first encounter with Brooklyn’s Pronoun aka Alyse Vellturo, is a dreamy, deep work of atmospheric pop that manages to say so much in just a few lyrics and chords.

Shura @ The Roxy Mon, 9/26

Shura’s effervescent indie pop has swept her to the top in the UK, and it’s only a matter of time after North America comes to their senses (especially after her recent opening stint for Tegan & Sara). Check her out in Hollywood on a Monday night and catch some feelings. $20, all ages.

Kid Cadaver, The Bulls, Disco Shrine @ The Hi Hat Weds, 9/28

Come celebrate the release of local heroes’ Kid Cadaver’s brand new single “Personal Addict” with a party in Highland Park. Anna Bulbrook’s The Bulls and danceable Disco Shrine support, with Beating Lights presenting for what is sure to be a wild Wednesday. $8, all ages.

KING, Joey Dosik @ The Troubador Thurs, 9/29

Pop-R&B trio KING, Prince proteges with a fantastic new self-titled album out, are taking over the Troubador for a night of soaring vocals and shimmering synths. Soulful babe-around-town Joey Dosik (cf Vulfpeck, Mocky) supports. $18, all ages.

PROM, The Unending Thread @ Resident Fri, 9/30

All the way from NYC come Brooklyn’s very own spacey synth magicians, supporting their dope new album Holding Pattern. They play Feminist Friday at Resident alongside SFV jazz-punks The Unending Thread, plus more support TBA. Free, 21+.

Brightener, Pratley, Family Hahas, The Nova Darlings @ The Hi Hat Sat, 10/1

Okay, okay, I’m a little biased putting this one on the list, because it’s actually my birthday party. For the big 2-1 I’m throwing an amazing show featuring my all-time favorite local bands, who just all happen to feature USC alums or students! There will be cupcakes and maybe even a special guest DJ. $5, 18+.

Margaret Glaspy @ The Echo Mon, 10/3

With one of the most stunning debut albums in recent memory, Margaret Glaspy has risen the ranks of stirring singer-songwriters with great agility. Her set at the Echo is sure to set feet a-tapping and eyes a-crying with her honest choruses. $12, 18+.

Grouplove, MUNA, Dilly Dally @ Hollywood Palladium Fri, 10/7

This LINEUP, you guys! Los Angeles indie-party-rock band Grouplove is back with a new album, Big Mess, and a tour to match. Their LA stop is bound to be a dreamland of tuneage, featuring Toronto noise wizards Dilly Dally alongside USC’s very own dark pop girls MUNA. $30, all ages.

Moonchild @ The Echo Sat, 10/8

Led by USC grad Amber Navran, Moonchild is the divine sonic combination of electronic, soul, and jazz. They take over the Echo for a matinee show that is sure to delight, plus you can even get to bed early that night! Wow, I totally didn’t mean to make that rhyme. $12, all ages.
