Song of the Week — Lenka’s “Two”

Former child actress Lenka’s latest album, Two, was released April 19 and its titular track is folksy, catchy and even includes some electronic elements in the background. Her clean, honest vocals smoothly create the line two is the one for me and prove her latest release shows serious promise. The bubbly tune from this New Zealand songwriter is easy to listen to and has the potential to turn any frown upside down.

News of the Week — Rise of the Planet of the Apes (to be released in August)

The late 1960s introduced moviegoers to a planet run entirely by sinister, intelligent apes. Then the story came back to life in 2001 in Tim Burton’s adaptation. Now, the story is back again with a twist, whether moviegoers like it or not. James Franco will star as a scientist who makes the wrong discovery and boosts apes’ intelligence in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The trailer is riddled with shots of frightened people and chaos-creating apes who trash a business and break into people’s homes. The movie is set to release Aug. 5.

Movie of the Week — Water for Elephants — In theaters Friday
Missing your favorite vampire heartthrob? Never fear, Robert Pattinson is back, albeit as a human this time. Teaming with the ever-sweet Reese Witherspoon, Pattinson stars in Water For Elephants. Based on Sara Gruen’s best-selling novel of the same name, the movie follows the story of circus performer Marlena (Witherspoon) and veterinarian Jacob (Pattinson). Soon the two fall for each other and must deal with the rage of Marlena’s husband (Christoph Waltz). Though the premise is nothing fresh, it’ll still be interesting to see Pattinson stray from his vampire clan and Witherspoon take on the role of circus doll.
