Icon Plaza at USC has pre-leased 40 percent of beds
The Icon Plaza at USC, on the corner of Figueroa Street and Exposition Boulevard next to the Radisson Hotel, has pre-leased about 40 percent of its beds as construction continues on the apartment building.
All two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments have been pre-leased, and Icon Plaza Principal Billy Ruvelson said he expects all the beds to be assigned by April. The construction is scheduled to end in July, and tenants can move in during August .
The building is slated to have 256 beds in 56 units, and all units have individual bedrooms and in-unit washers and dryers. Prices range from $925 for a shared room in a five-bedroom apartment to $1,709 for a single in a two-bedroom apartment.
“We are conscious that not everybody can write a big check so we wanted to make [the apartments] available to a wide variety of students,” Ruvelson said.
The building will have a doorman, pool, fitness center, sundeck, a tanning bed and a courtyard for residents, as well as shops on the first floor.
“Students will have everything they need under one roof,” Ruvelson said.
Some students said they were glad to see another apartment building being built.
“More housing options are always a good thing,” said Eric Baughman, a freshman majoring in biochemistry.
Baughman said, while his future living plans are undecided, a private-owned apartment building full of amenities would be appealing.
Lena Cronin, a junior majoring in communication, said she hadn’t heard of the Icon Plaza.
“A new place that caters to students’ needs is beneficial,” Cronin said. “Housing is really competitive, so another place is nice.”
