Football coaching positions to be filled

USC wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore’s departure to the NFL’s Oakland Raiders opened up another assistant role on the USC football coaching staff this week following linebackers coach Joe Barry’s move to the San Diego Chargers, according to the Los Angeles Times.

With four weeks before spring practice begins, coach Lane Kiffin should not encounter difficulty in finding a willing replacement to coach a group that includes one of the best duos in the country: junior wide receiver Robert Woods and freshman wide receiver Marqise Lee.

According to Twitter, USC’s talented wide receiver corps has not been shy about its preference. On Wednesday, Woods tweeted that he wanted former USC standout Keary Colbert to coach the position group.

Colbert served as a tight ends coach at USC during the 2010 season before attempting to rekindle his career in the NFL. He registered nine receptions for 89 yards for the Kansas City Chiefs last season before being waived in November 2011.
