Santorum calls Obama a snob regarding higher education
As the race for the 2012 Republican nomination heats up, Rick Santorum recently stirred up a bit of controversy. Speaking to an audience in Michigan, Santorum addressed President Obama’s message that he thinks all American citizens should have the chance to go to college.
“President Obama once said that he wants everybody in America to go to college,” Santorum told the group watching him speak, “What a snob.”
Santorum continued that there are “good, decent men and women,” who “aren’t taught by some liberal college professor trying to indoctrinate them.” He said that he understands why Obama “wants you to go to college. He wants to remake you in his image.”
Clips from the speech have gone viral and have generated much discussion on social networking sites. One segment from the video that has begun drawing attention is that following the end of Santorum’s remarks, a man in a University of Michigan sweatshirt is seen clapping.
In addition to this supporter of Santorum who seemingly also supports a public university, another popular topic for discussion lies in the fact that Santorum himself received a B.A., and an M.B.A, and later also received a J.D. after graduating law school—and his three degrees account for a higher number of degrees than Obama’s.
