Shooting west of campus injures one
At approximately 12:15 Monday morning, a shooting occurred that left one person injured on Raymond Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard, just west of the University Park Campus.
Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department’s media relations office said the victim, a black male, was shot multiple times by a Hispanic suspect and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The suspect is still outstanding,” Herrera said. “He’s not in custody and the motive for the shooting is unknown.”
USC’s Department of Public Safety responded to assist LAPD officers in creating a perimeter around the neighborhood.
Carlisle said it appeared that a suspect had been taken into custody early this morning, but Herrera said LAPD doesn’t have a record of an arrest being made.
“[LAPD] suspected the shooter was still in the area,” DPS Deputy Chief David Carlisle said. “LAPD did utilize their canines and a suspect was taken into custody.’”
