Nikias sworn in Friday

C.L. Max Nikias will officially be installed as the president of USC on Friday in an inauguration ceremony open to students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni and the community.

The ceremony will start with a reception at 8:30 a.m. Students, staff, parents and community members will meet in Argue Plaza. Faculty will meet at the Ronald Tutor Campus Center, and alumni will gather in Founder’s Park.

All attendees can witness the installation ceremony in Alumni Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m., when Nikias will be officially sworn in as president.

Following the ceremony, the university will host a picnic in McCarthy Quad at noon. No reservations are required to attend the picnic.

Later that evening, the USC School of Cinematic Arts, the Consulate General of Greece in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival and the Hellenic Film center will host a screening of Brides at 7 p.m. in the Norris Cinema Theatre. The film tells a love story that takes place during a 1922 Atlantic crossing of 700 brides.

Students are encouraged to attend the ceremony; classes will not be canceled but professors have been encouraged to bring their students to the inauguration. Students should confirm their attendance to the 8:30 a.m. reception at www.usc.edu/esvp (code: Student).

Faculty have the opportunity to march in the inauguration procession, but they must register at www.usc.edu/esvp (code: Faculty).

Parking is free for all inaugural events, but attendees must arrive early to secure a space. The University Parking Center on Grand Avenue will also be available, and will provide a tram every 5-10 minutes to campus.

Nikias is the 11th president in the university’s 130-year history to be inaugurated. The last inauguration took place in 1991, when former President Steven B. Sample was sworn in.
