Charm school
Etiquette coach Aleta Pottenger talks to members of the Society of Women Engineers Tuesday in The Forum of the Ronald Tutor Campus Center, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., about how to act appropriately in business situations and how to network effectively.
This programs sounds diversified and informative. I applaud any and all education that will help our young women (and men) become more effective in the professional work place. The instructor looks serious, current, and professional. What a fantastic opportunity to learn from the pros!
Trying to teach ugly dogs new tricks never works…..or was that old dogs?
Charm School?? Really?? Way to belittle an important informational session. Way to play into tired old stereotypes about how women achieve success. What would it have been had the audience been all male? 7 steps for highly effective networking?
Actually Rebecca if you knew anything about this event, you would understand that this was only ONE workshop. In other workshops we discussed things like Resumes, strategies for behavioral interviews and an entire workshop called exactly “How to Network Effectively”.
The Society of Women Engineers is an organization that EMPOWERS women in engineering and strives to highlight all women in engineering with their successes and achievements.
Rebecca, why don’t you do your research next time before you make assumptions about an organization on campus that has won the Tommy award for best Student Organization multiple times in the past years. Then maybe if you did, you’d realize how ignorant you sound.
