In review, officials missed call at Notre Dame

Notre Dame’s fake field goal had USC reeling Saturday.

It’s now apparent the officials were confused too.

The Pac-10 coordinator of football officials David Cutaia told the Los Angeles Times that the crew who worked the game at Notre Dame made a mistake in not calling a penalty on the Fighting Irish’s fake field goal.

The Notre Dame holder completed a 25-yard pass to a receiver on the play – but, upon further review, the receiver stood deceptively in bounds even when the field-goal unit came onto the field.

Cutaia said Notre Dame deserved a 15-yard penalty on the play and should have had to repeat the down.

USC coach Pete Carroll declined to comment on the story to the Times.
