Mark Sanchez campaigns for the JDRF

With His season over and about to go under the knife for knee surgery, Mark Sanchez is still making an impact on the national scene, this time in support of a charitable contest for the NFL.

The NFL’s Pepsi Refresh Project pits the ex-Trojan against Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Cowboys defensive lineman DeMarcus Ware as they all compete for a $100,000 grant from Pepsi to support the charity of their choosing.

Sanchez has chosen the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which sponsers and funds research into type 1 or early-onset diabetes, usually diagnosed in children under the age of 18.

Sanchez’s goal for his donation would be to fund early detection programs for the incurable disease and allow for prompt treatment.

You can vote for any of the three contestants at the NFL website (link), or by text message, by texting “MARK” “DEMARCUS” or “DREW” to 73774. The text message is free of charge.

Brees is competing for the American Cancer Society and Ware is attempting to raise the grant for Jonathon’s Place, a charity that benefits Dallas-area child-abuse victims.

The contest ends Feb. 5 at midnight.
