Trojans down

Spring practice started on Tuesday and already several Trojan football players have injuries to deal with.

Saturday was the first day the team performed in full pads, and the full-contact practice got the best if some players. FB Stanley Havili injured his left shoulder, FB D.J. Shoemate suffered a left hamstring injury and RB Dillon Baxter hurt his right quad.

Other Trojans who suffered injuries Saturday include DT Hebron Fangupo (ankle), OT Matt Kalil (hip), OG Zack Heberer (ankle), LB Marquis Simmons (spine), S Ryan McMahon (stinger) and OT Martin Coleman (right ankle).

One injury that could persist well into the season is that of Marshall Jones, who suffered a cervical S spine injury. Jones sat out the majority of last season due to a neck injury. By the end of Saturday’s practic, he was in a brace and out of uniform.

On the upside, C Kristofer O’Dowd was back Saturday after leaving early from Thursday’s practice due to a mild knee sprain.
