Social media gears up for inauguration

USC is using several social media sites for the Inauguration of USC President C.L. Max Nikias this Friday.

For the past few weeks, the inauguration Facebook page has posted biweekly trivia questions and given students USC-related prizes for answering them correctly.

USC is encouraging those on Twitter to use the hashtag #uscnikias this week to report back from the inauguration events they attend.

Additionally, on the day of the Inauguration, prizes will be given to 11 random Foursquare users who check in to the “USC Inauguration of C. L. Max Nikias.”

Foursquare allows its users to “check in” to real-world places and read “tips” from people who have been there previously, and also can cross-post to Facebook or Twitter. It is available as an app for iPhones, Blackberries and Android phones, or users can post via text message.

They left a tip at the University of Southern California (USC) and Alumni Park venues saying, “Don’t miss the inauguration of C. L. Max Nikias as president of USC on Oct. 15, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in Alumni Park!”

The night before the inauguration, USC will create a venue called “USC Inauguration of C. L. Max Nikias,” which will have a tip with more contest information.
