For AMC, zombie stars are here to stay

It’s always difficult to follow up episode one of any fledgling series.

But for AMC and The Walking Dead, the results couldn’t be any better.

The show premiered Halloween night with a heavy dose of zombie gore, unexpected sentimentality and layer upon layer of psychological depth. On Sunday, the viewer warnings became more frequent, the supply of fake blood abounded and viewers got a taste of what is to come for the next season — and so did AMC. The show is officially slated for another season, perhaps thanks to last night’s 4.7 million viewers.

The show broke a record for its tremendous ratings the first week and will probably only continue to grasp viewers by the collar in a frenzy of gore and emotional turmoil.

The majority of the show’s characters may be dead, but the series is far from it.
