Common application becomes more popular

College admissions officers have been seeing a rise in the Common Application this year, an internet portal that is used to streamline applications to over 400 colleges and universities in one online form.

Approximately 600,000 students from across the United States will use the Common Application this year.

It is becoming so popular that college applicants often express frustration or annoyance if a particular school is not on the list.

Stanford, Pomona College and Loyola Marymount University all participate in the College Application system, although University of California and California State schools have chosen not to join.

UC spokesman Richard Vazquez said that because these schools require so much supplemental information on their applications, it would not be in the students’ best interest to join the program.

USC, however, is thinking about being added to the list for next year’s admissions process.

“We’ve gotten a lot of feedback from high school counselors and prospective students who would really like us to go to the Common Application,” Timothy Brunold, USC admissions dean, said to the Los Angeles Times.

“I think we’ve heard that enough that it is time to think about it in earnest,” he said.
