You’ve settled into the semester at last. You know where all your classes are, your midterms are coming to an end, and you realize you forgot to plan something: Spring Break. Don’t fret, here’s a list of events going on all over the country will help you treat yourself with an exciting week off no matter where you go.
Treefort Music Festival
March 20 – March 23
Boise, Idaho
Treefort Music Festival focuses on the up-and-coming music scene in Boisie, Idaho as well as the city’s talented musicians and more well-known artist. Bands playing the event include Built to Spill, Dan Deacon and Aan.
SXSW
March 7 – 16
Austin, Texas
Though this week-and-a-half-long festival technically started last week, you can still catch the end of South by Southwest. This fusion of film, tech and music in Austin, Texas is a great opportunity to network and discover new things. Notable music acts include Jagwar Ma, Twin Shadow, and DeLorean.
Lorde at Roseland Ballroom
March 10 – 12, 7 p.m.
New York City
New Zealand native and pop music sensation Lorde comes to the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. Born Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O’Connor, the 17-year-old singer-songwriter penned the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Royals.” Her lyrics have been praised for their piercing critiques of contemporary pop culture’s aspirationalism, all the while rapidly ascending the singer to her own place among pop music royalty.
St. Patrick’s Day
Monday, March 17
Boston
It must be the luck of the Irish that St. Patrick’s Day falls over Spring Break. 850,000 people attend at least some portion of Boston’s celebrations. Boston’s own Dropkick Murphys will perform their annual St. Patrick’s Day concert, and there will be a bagpipe-filled, confetti-tossing parade with over 600,000 spectators.
Miami Winter Music Conference
March 21 – 30
Miami
This week-long conference held in Miami focuses on young professionals in electronic music. This event serves around 100,000 visitors from the music industry including DJs, producers, executives and more. Pre-registration is open now through March 12.
