Mays, Williams named Pac-10 Players of the Week

Two USC players received weekly honors for their performances in Saturday’s 30-3 blowout win of No. 24 Cal.

Senior safety Taylor Mays and redshirt junior receiver Damian Williams each were named Pac-10 Players of the Week — Mays for his defensive work and Williams for his contributions on special teams.

Mays recorded 10 tackles — six of them solo — and caught a key interception against the Golden Bears. Mays’ interception of quarterback Kevin Riley came in the end zone on the Bears’ first drive, killing Cal’s momentum and opening the floodgates for a dominating USC win.

Mays was also named the Lott Trophy IMPACT Player of the Week.

Williams received recognition for his 66-yard punt return that sparked the Trojans in the first half. Williams also caught eight passes for 108 yards and remains USC’s leading pass-catcher this year.
