USC student groups to hold Haiti fundraiser

The USC California Public Interest Research Group, Undergraduate Student Government and other student groups will host “Fight on for Haiti” Thursday to raise awareness and gather donations to help victims of the devastating earthquake in Port-au-Prince.

The event will be held on Trousdale Parkway outside Tommy Trojan, and will feature booths for donations. The groups will be collecting food, shoes, clothes and monetary contributions. Haitian music will be played from noon to 1 p.m.

“[CALPIRG] had this idea for a general Haiti day where everyone gets the facts and how terrible the disaster was out there,” USG President Holden Slusher said.

The participating groups, including Carribean SC and ‘SC students for Israel, hope to raise $5,000. The donations will be given to Oxfam International and the American Red Cross.

USG and the Graduate and Professional Student Senate will also be selling T-shirts for $10, and the proceeds will go to the Gheskio Hospital in Haiti.

Participants are encouraged to wear red to show support for Haiti.
