Los Angeles streets to close Sunday

Los Angeles is notorious for its miles of automobile-congested roads, but this Sunday a seven-mile section of streets running from East Hollywood through downtown to Boyle Heights will be closed to car traffic as part of a city-sponsored event known as CicLAvia.

The event — which takes its name from the Spanish word for bike path, ciclovia — will close certain streets from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., giving free reign to people to use the open space as they wish.

Organizers say people are planning to use the streets for a variety of activities, including bicycle rides, soccer matches, yoga classes, dance routines, and political protests. A Brazilian capoeira group is even planning to take their talents to the streets.
