Compliance officials travel to NCAA headquarters

As part of the athletic department’s effort to maintain steady dialogue with the NCAA, USC officials went to Indianapolis last week for the second time this year to meet with NCAA administrators.

Vice President for Athletics Compliance Dave Roberts and Associate Vice President for Athletics Compliance Ellen Ferris went on the trip, which focused on tracking the progress the department has made since it was slammed with sanctions in June for having a “lack of institutional control” over its teams.

“The visits have been very well received by the NCAA,” Roberts said. “It is clear that they are pleased with the steps that we have taken to date and they have repeatedly offered their help and assistance.”

Athletic Director Pat Haden — who went on the first trip to Indianapolis with USC President C.L. Max Nikias — said he was pleased with the results.

“When Max and I traveled to NCAA headquarters earlier this year and met with many of their people, we had a very productive and valuable trip,” Haden said. “Dave and Ellen said that their trip went equally well, and that the feedback they received from the NCAA was that they are thrilled with our progress and with the steps we have taken to ensure that we are completely in line with NCAA rules and regulations.”

“That’s great news,” he added.
