Noa Foruzanfar was sworn in as an Undergraduate Student Government senator at Tuesday night’s senate meeting, taking over a vacant seat that was left when former senator Andrew Cardenas resigned last week.

Foruzanfar was a candidate in the September 2025 special election. According to USG’s bylaws, if a vacancy occurs during the term, the candidate with the highest number of votes from the last election who is not currently seated will assume the vacant seat.

Forzanfar’s original campaign was centered around pushing for more affordable USC housing options as well as more avenues for discussion between administration and students.

During the meeting, the senate also unanimously approved a co-executive director for the speakers committee and an assistant director for the Black Student Assembly.

Bea Ashley Tan, a sophomore majoring in business administration, was confirmed as co-executive director for the speakers committee.

For the BSA, Shayzari Kent, majoring in political science, was confirmed as assistant director.

Vice president Emma Fallon said in a report to the senate that she will have recurring meetings with the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences Dean James Bullock regarding the changes to academic advising. She said this was to address questions raised by students, provide feedback and “see what we can do to better manage the system.”

On Oct. 10, Dornsife laid off 162 individuals, most of whom were academic support staff. The school then regrouped students and advisers under humanities, natural sciences and social sciences categories for academic advising. This grouping was previously done by major.

Fallon also recapped the spring admit dinner hosted by USG, which she said had around 550 spring admits in attendance. Fallon said the project was important to her and president Mikaela Bautista because she was a transfer student and Bautista was a spring admit.

“It was really cool to give back to that community that doesn’t really have that necessarily traditional welcome experience,” Fallon said during her report.
